New Car

I am quite excited this morning as we are buying a car today. My last car died last August and since then we have been using public transport to get around. It is a three year old diesel Renault Clio. We will be able to drive to the supermarket and buy heavy things, Elise will be able to drive to the shops whenever she wants and, more importantly we will be able to visit friends and family and go to nice places for walks. Also we will be able to drive to the tennis courts, go to the cinema... the list goes on!!!

This is the May Day bank holiday weekend so we will be able to get used to the car and make the most of the good weather, if it holds. I bought the insurance on the internet last night and this wasn't too dear. In fact the price came down £200 when I added Elise as a driver!! I am even happier this morning as I have just checked to see how much the tax is, as it is due in June. Because the car has a relatively small engine (1461cc turbo diesel with an intercooler which makes 80 bhp at 4000 rpm) it falls into the second lowest tax bracket (the lowest bracket is free!) which costs £50 for 12 months.

No doubt for the next couple of weeks I will document where we have driven etc. until the novelty wears off
